Columbia City’s First Pride Block Party

Seattle’s Columbia City neighborhood celebrated its first-ever LGBTQIA+ Pride celebration on Sunday, June 27. Although it was organized just a few weeks ahead of time by Columbia City neighbors, the grassroots event included a disco DJ, drag entertainers, an emcee, a local-business raffle, temporary tattoos, and miniature ponies. Neighbors donated, and excess proceeds benefitted Lambert House. It was held at the Patio on S Ferdinand St, which was created for outdoor dining during COVID-19.

Despite the record-setting 104° F weather, many neighbors showed up to dance and celebrate. Event co-organizer Manny Apostol Jr. said to the crowd, “There’s so many countless folks out there who have donated so much money and so much time. This makes my heart feel very full. Look out for the one next year, people!”
