2023-01-18 Hardly Raining
London post-punk group Dry Cleaning returned to the Neptune Theatre on January 18, 2023. They were last here in 2021, and unfortunately did not perform at the 2022 THING Festival after having been announced in the early lineup.
Dry Cleaning includes Florence Shaw (vocals), Tom Dowse (guitar), Nick Buxton (drums), and Lewis Maynard (bass). Shaw was notable for her clever spoken-word vocals and quirky stage presence. Meanwhile, the band repeated driving riffs, flung their hair, and generally rocked out.
They included most of the tunes on their latest album, Stumpwork, which was released on 4AD. Dry Cleaning added in a few hits from their critically acclaimed 2021 debut, New Long Leg. The evening ended with a two-song encore.
Earlier that day, they also played a live set at KEXP. Dry Cleaning’s tour continues through the U.S. and Europe until April 1, 2023.
