Seattle natives vocalist Sara Gazarek and trumpeter Thomas Marriott closed out the 2023 Summer Series at the Amphitheater. The series featured six free outdoor concerts in Seattle’s Volunteer Park.

Gazarek’s group included a NYC lineup of Julian Shore (piano), Matt Aranoff (bass), and Jared Schonig (drums), along with special guest Tatum Greenblatt (trumpet). First performing a mix of Gazarek’s compositions and jazz standards, they finished with a pretty version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” Gazarek is a Grammy-nominated artist, also performing with vocal supergroup säje. She released “Vanity” in 2022.

Accompanying Marriott were Seattle musicians Tim Kennedy (piano), Xavier Lecouturier (drums), and Trevor Ford (bass). They played originals from Marriott’s latest albums, Live From the Heat Dome (2022) and Coast to Coast (2023). Marriott also founded the Seattle Jazz Fellowship and hosts a weekly jam session at the Royal Room.
